Who is Justin Trudeau?

Justin Pierre James Trudeau is Canada's 23rd Prime Minister. In September 2021, Trudeau led his party into a third term in office. When Justin Trudeau was just four months old, then-US President Richard Nixon predicted the infant would one day follow in his father's footsteps.

Justin Trudeau's early life

Justin Pierre James Trudeau was born in Ottawa on December 25, 1971 to Margaret Sinclair and Pierre Elliott Trudeau, who was, at the time, the 15th Prime Minister of Canada.

Predominantly, Justin Trudeau is of French Canadian and Scottish descent and has family roots in both Western and Eastern Canada. Justin Trudeau is married to Sophie Grégoire and they have three children.

Trudeau studied Bachelor of Arts in literature at McGill University in 1994 and then acquired a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of British Columbia in 1998. After graduation, Trudeau spent several years teaching Mathematics, French, humanities, drama and other subjects in Vancouver.

In 1998, his youngest brother died in an avalanche in British Columbia, this incident urged him to become a spokesman for avalanche safety.

The politician has always been an advocate on several social issues. He has also raised a strong voice for resource development and responsible environmental management in Canada.

The son of a long-time politician came into the national spotlight at the age of 28 when he delivered a moving eulogy at his father’s funeral.

Between 2002 and 2005, he served as the chairman of Katimavik, a national volunteer service program for Canadians.

Politics

In 2006, Justin Trudeau was appointed as chair of the Liberal Party's 'Task Force on Youth Renewal'. A year later, he entered the field of politics by winning a nomination for the Liberal Party in a by-election in Quebec's Papineau. He became a member of Parliament (MP) in 2008.

He won the leadership of the Liberal Party in 2013 and the party witnessed victory in the 2015 federal election. Trudeau was sworn in as the PM of Canada on November 4, 2015. On October 21, 2019, Liberal Party successfully led the re-election and earned a second mandate from the Canadians.

2021 victory

Justin Trudeau secured victory in the 2021 parliamentary elections but failed to get the majority. However, he leads a strong minority government that won't be toppled by the opposition anytime soon.
