Who is Ram Nath Thakur?
Ram Nath Thakur is an Indian politician and JD(U) leader. He is the son of social reformer and Bharat Ratna recipient ‘Jan Nayak’ Karpoori Thakur. He is a two-time Rajya Sabha MP from Bihar. He became the Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare in 2024.
Early Life and Education
Thakur was born on 3rd March, 1950 in Karpoori Gram of Samastipur (Bihar).
He is an Agriculturist by profession and graduated in Intermediate (Arts) at G.K.P. College, Samastipur, L.N.M. University, Darbhanga.

1988-2000: Member, Bihar Legislative Council
1990-1995: Minister, Department of Sugarcane Industries, Government of Bihar
2000-2010: Member, Bihar Legislative Assembly
2005-2010: Cabinet Minister, Department of Revenue and Land Reforms, Law, Information and Public Relations, Government of Bihar
2014: Elected to Rajya Sabha
2020: Elected to Rajya Sabha (second term)
2024: Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare
