Colgate, Opto Circuits & Sonata Q1 results

Colgate Q1 net up 43%
Beating market expectations, oral care major Colgate Palmolive registered a rise of 43 per cent in its consolidated net profit for the quarter ended June 30, 2009 to touch Rs 103 crore as compared with Rs 72 crore in the corresponding quarter last financial year. The revenue for the first quarter this financial year increased by 15 per cent to touch Rs 468 crore as compared with Rs 408 crore in the year-ago period. During the quarter, the company achieved a volume growth of 12 per cent. It continued its strong momentum in the toothpaste category, which grew by 14 per cent. For the January-May 2009 period , the company, which makes Colgate Dental Cream, Active Salt and Cibaca, increased its volume marketshare in the toothpaste category to 52.3 per cent.

Opto Circuits’ net rises 31.7%
Opto Circuits (India) Ltd, the Bangalore-based manufacturer of coronary stents and other diagnostic equipment, has reported an increase of 31.7 per cent in consolidated net profit to Rs 59.28 crore for the first quarter-ended June 30 compared with the corresponding quarter last year. The rise was mainly on account of introduction of new products and rising demand for its diagnostic equipment.

Sonata posts marginal fall in PAT
Sonata Software Ltd has reported 0.3 per cent fall in net profit after tax to Rs 17.76 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2009, from Rs 17.81 crore in the corresponding period of the previous year. Sequentially, PAT increased 3 per cent from Rs 17.22 crore posted in the quarter ended March 31.
