Four Independent Power Producers (IPPs), having total generation capacity of 2,860 Mw, will go on stream in the current fiscal, said Arun Kumar Sahu, minister of state for energy after reviewing private energy projects here.

"While GMR has already commissioned its plant, it will start commercial operation shortly. Others such as Ind Barath, Maa Durga and Monnet Power have told us to commission their projects in the current financial year," said Sahu.

All the projects are on the verge of completing construction work and have coal linkages. GMR and Monnet Power have 1,050 Mw generation capacity each, Ind Barath will have two units of 350 Mw. Similarly, Maa Durga's initial capacity is pegged at 2X30 Mw.

These IPPs on Monday committed to start operation of at least one unit of their planned capacity during this fiscal.

The review meeting also discussed projects of Lanco Infra, Jindal India Thermal Power Ltd (JITPL), KVK Nilachal and Sterlite Energy, which has already commissioned its 2,400 Mw power project in Jharsuguda.

"Apart from hurdles in land acquisition, we also discussed the CSR and afforestation activities being undertaken by these companies and offer of jobs to local youths in the projects," said the minister.

Elaborating on the power generation situation of the state, the state owned bulk power trader, Gridco said, there would be no scheduled power cuts this summer.

"We have sufficient hydro power generation. The reservoirs have adequate water levels to supply power up to June. So there would not be any scheduled power cut this summer," said P K Pradhan, commercial director of Gridco.

Gridco is currently getting about 1,000 Mw power from hydro power plants, which was 250 Mw last summer, he added.
