| RWDI, which specialises in studying the interaction of buildings and the wind using its boundary layer wind tunnels, model building capabilities and extensive instrumentation, recently set up its facility at Thiruvananthapuram's Technopark. This is in fact the company's only base in Asia. |
| K Suresh Kumar, director, RWDI Consulting Engineers (India ), told Business Standard, that the company was planning to provide wind engineering services for the design of wind sensitive structures around the world from its India base. |
| "Wind tunnel testing, which is an integral part of the study, will be done either at our facilities in Canada or the UK. The analysis part will then be carried out here in India," he said. |
| Kumar added that RWDI had also lined up plans to carry out related research and development works here in India . The Technopark facility of the company, set up with an investment of Rs 80 lakh, had the potential to grow into any dimension with full-fledged laboratory facility, he added. |
| According to him, RWDI deals with all kinds of facilities on a world-wide basis, offering architects and engineers assistance in designing wall cladding, roof systems, building motions and structural systems. |
| The firm's wind engineering practice also involves the study of wind impacts on pedestrian use areas, sports and assembly venues, and building accessories. |
| "RWDI has the experience of working on a number of projects and this ensures that our clients receive the benefits of this extensive knowledge," he said. |
| Some of its projects include Burj Dubai in Dubai, Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Manchester Stadium in the UK, Taipei 101 in Taiwan, Hong Kong Stadium and Tacoma Narrows Bridge in the US , he added. |
| Elaborating on RWDI's clients, he said structural engineers, architects, owners, developers form most of the clientele. |
| "Currently, we are based on global market and do have a good client base around the world, especially in North America, Europe, Middle-East, and Asian countries like Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan," he said. |
| RWDI Consulting Engineers (India ) at present has an employee strength of only four, and Kumar plans to raise it to six in the next three months. "Probably, we will double the strength in two years," he added. |
