In a bid to protect the interests of policyholders, the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA) is planning to further tone up the role of the ombudsman.

Top IRDA sources told Business Standard that some of the watchdogs were also taking up complaints regarding commercial lines, which they should not be doing.
