MP hikes provisions for power, roads

| Revenue receipts have been estimated at Rs 23,480.29 crore during 2006-07, comprising Rs 10,029.46 crore as the state's own tax revenue, Rs 7,015.17 crore of central tax devolution, Rs 2,059.08 crore of state's non-tax revenue, and Rs 4,376.48 crore of central grants. The state's tax revenues are estimated to grow at 12.27 per cent, compared to the revised estimates of 2005-06. |
| The state government is aiming at 700 Mw by earmarking Rs 503 crore for this; this amount includes Rs 344.20 crore for strengthening and upgrading power transmission systems. |
| A provision of Rs 429 crore has been made for the maintenance of roads and another Rs 265 crore under the Vishwakarma Building Renovation Campaign for the maintenance of public buildings. |
| Emphasis has been laid on primary education under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and an annual plan for Rs 1,800 crore has been envisaged, which is more than Rs 507 crore of the revenue estimates of 2005-06. |
| In order to improve health services, Rs 45.13 crore has been earmarked for the construction of buildings and Rs 5 crore for the setting up of a medical college in Sagar. |
| A provision of Rs 182 crore has been made for the financial restructuring of the cooperative institutions as per the recommendations of the Vaidhyanathan Committee. |
| Further, an amount of Rs 65 crore has been provided for the development of Bhopal, Jabalpur, Indore and Ujjain under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission. |
| To facilitation expansion of Bhopal and Indore Airports, a provisions of Rs 12.40 crore has been made for land acquisition and a provision of Rs 16.75 crore has been made for tourism infrastructure development. |
| Announcing some sops to government employees, the finance minister said, "Government employees and pensioners would be given additional three percentage points dearness allowance and relief respectively and would also be given installments during 2006-07 as per revision of rates announced by the central government. Shiksha Karmis (teachers on contractual basis) will be given an increased dearness allowance of 20 percentage points. The panchayat Karmis will also get an honorarium of Rs 350 per months." |
| The minister also raised the daily honorarium of voluntary home guards and other voluntary ranks by another Rs 20. "Now they will get at least Rs 100 per day," said the minister adding, "The total burden would be Rs 400 crore per year on state government for employee benefit." |
