A separate heritage tourism policy, in line with the one framed by Rajasthan, will go a long way in increasing the number of tourists visiting the state, said Rao Gopal Sinh, honorary secretary of Heritage Hotels Associations (HHA).

The association witnessed a 40 per cent growth in 2004-05 in Gujarat. There are 15 heritage hotels in the state with a total turnover of Rs 3 crore.

"The main aim of the heritage hotels is to provide a sustainable framework to maintain the rich history the state." said Sinh.

HHA had given a proposal, in September 2004, to the state government to make a separate heritage tourism policy where the tradition and culture of Gujarat will be highlighted.
