National Academy of Construction (NAC) has tied up with International Facilities Management Association (IFMA) to train people in facility management beginning July 2005.

The course, being introduced for the first time in India, includes 24 weeks of study and 26 weeks of industry exposure training.

"The course has been conceptualised keeping in line with the emerging needs of the industry," K A N Prasad, director (training), NAC, said briefing the media.

Facility management aims at creating an efficient workplace from the time of inception of the organisation to actual implementation in physical terms and supports a 24X7 work environment. The facility manager has to do multi-tasking for continued maintenance of the workplace related services and the built-up environment.

"Workplace related services range from technical such as air-conditioning, civil structure, plumbing, fire-fighting to non-technical like tendering and contract management. The facility manager is central to the operation, administration and maintenance of the facility," he said.

Prasad said that industrial training for the programme would be arranged in major IT companies like Wipro, Infosys, pharma majors, multiplexes and the hospitality industry.

"The programme would enhance the employment opportunities with the opening of the construction sector for FDI," he added.

The course fee is Rs 95,000 and it will commence on July 11, 2005.
