Rains over the past few days will help the fertiliser industry only to make up about 12 per cent of the damage caused by the slack monsoon in the past two months, experts said.

Though a large chunk of fertilisers will be used for the rabi crop, companies will continue to be under pressure due to the piling up of inventories during the last two months, said Ajay S Shriram, chairman and senior managing director of DSCL.

There might be some sowing of pulses and oilseeds during the interim period, which was likely to make up some of the loss, said an official at National Fertiliser Ltd. But he added that the kharif crop could not be revived.
