The Central Organisation for Oil Industry and Trade (COOIT) has projected the kharif oilseed production at 13.04 million tonne, about 0.68 million tonne higher than last kharif's 12.36 million tonne.
 
The first set of estimates released by this apex oilseed industry body puts the likely output of groundnut in the current kharif at 5.65 million tonne, against 4.45 million tonne in last kharif.
 
But the output of soybean is projected to drop to 5.36 million tonnes from last season's 5.85 million tonne.
 
The production of sunflowerseed and castorseed is also reckoned to rise marginally while that of seesameseed fall from previous season's level.
 
It expects the production of both toria and nigerseed to remain stagnant at last season's level of 1.5 lakh tonne each.
 
The output of sunflowerseed is estimated 5.2 lakh tonne, against last kharif's 4.9 lakh tonne and that of castorseed at 8.1 lakh tonne, against 8.0 lakh tonne in last season.
 
The output of seasame seed is projected to fall from 4.7 lakh tonne in the last kharif season to 4.0 lakh tonne in this year.
 
The COOIT will soon announce an update on its estimates in November.
