Sensex near day's high; TCS, Rel Comm surge
The Sensex has rallied to a high of 12,115. Earlier in the day, the index opened up 76 points at 11,949.
The index is now up 226 points to 12,099.
TCS has surged 5% to Rs 653. Reliance Communications has rallied 4% to Rs 234. Bharti Airtel, HDFC, ICICI Bank and Jaiprakash Associates have gained 3.5% each.
Tata Motors, Sterlite, Larsen & Toubro and SBI have advanced 3% each to Rs 269, Rs 463, Rs 975 and Rs 1,304.
Tata Steel, DLF, Wipro, Tata Power, Grasim, Hindalco, Mahindra & Mahindra, BHEL, HDFC Bank, Infosys, Reliance Infrastructure, ACC and Maruti Suzuki have added 1-2% each.
However, ONGC has dropped 3% to Rs 809.
The market breadth is fairly positive. Out of 2,259 stocks traded, 1,537 have advanced while 650 have declined.
