Oz coach Rixon looking to continue with 'batting first' strategy in remaining India ODIs

Australian coach Steve Rixon, who is in charge of the team in place of the rested Darren Lehmann in India, has said he wants the team to continue with the strategy of batting first in the coming ODI matches against India, if given the option.

India captain MS Dhoni has already shown a preference for bowling first, due to his desire to back his batsmen to chase any total and to negate the impact the evening dew would have on his spinners R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja as compared to Australian pacers Mitchell Johnson and Clint McKay, who are less affected by the dew.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Rixon said that he is happy with Australia's strategy of batting first regardless of what Dhoni does, although he admitted that it has a 50 per cent ratio at this stage as even though it did not work in the second ODI in Jaipur, it worked well in the first one at Pune.

Rixon further said that if the team keeps on posting scores of 300 plus, chances are that they are going to win more than they lose, adding that he is pleased with Australia's batting at the moment, their contributions and the way they are structuring their innings.
