Nifty June futures trade at discount to spot price

Turnover drops

The June 2016 futures on the Nifty 50 index traded at 8164, a discount of 6.20 points compared with Nifty's closing of 8170.20 in the cash market. The Nifty July 2016 futures traded at 8189, a small premium of 18.80 points compared with the spot closing for the index. Turnover on the National Stock Exchange's futures & options (F&O) segment fell sharply to Rs 2.14 lakh crore from turnover of Rs 4.10 lakh crore registered yesterday, 16 June 2016, when a sharp surge in turnover was witnessed.

In the cash market, the Nifty gained 29.45 points or 0.36% to settle at 8,170.20, its highest closing level since 15 June 2016.

State Bank of India (SBI), Tata Motors, Housing Development and Infrastructure (HDIL), Yes Bank, Axis Bank and ICICI Bank were the top traded individual stock futures contracts in F&O segment of NSE. SBI June 2016 futures traded at 213.45, near spot closing of 212.90. Tata Motors June 2016 futures traded at 463.65, matching spot closing for the stock. HDIL June 2016 futures traded at 102.90, near spot closing of 102.50.

Yes Bank June 2016 futures traded at 1066.90, at a discount compared with spot closing of 1067. Axis Bank June 2016 futures traded at 528.10, near spot closing of 526.35. ICICI Bank June 2016 futures traded at 239.15, near spot closing of 238.80

The June 2016 F&O contracts are set to expire on 30 June 2016. The July 2016 F&O contracts are set to expire on 28 July 2016.
