Nifty June 2016 futures trade at small premium to spot price
The June 2016 futures on the Nifty 50 index traded at 8168, a small premium of 11.35 points compared with the Nifty's closing of 8156.65 in the cash market. The Nifty July 2016 futures traded at 8186.10, a premium of 29.45 points compared with the spot closing for the index. Turnover on the National Stock Exchange's futures & options (F&O) segment totaled Rs 2.21 lakh crore, which was lower than turnover of Rs 7.22 lakh crore registered during the previous trading session.
In the cash market, the Nifty rose 87 points or 1.08% to settle at 8,156.65, its highest closing level since 28 October 2015.
State Bank of India (SBI), HPCL, BPCL, L&T, Reliance Infrastructure and Reliance Industries (RIL) were the top traded individual stock futures contracts in the June 2016 series. SBI June 2016 futures traded at 198.95, at a discount compared with the stock's spot closing of 201. HPCL June 2016 futures traded at 930.95, at a premium compared with spot closing of 926.65. BPCL June 2016 futures traded at 998.80, at a discount compared with spot closing of 1005.85.
L&T June 2016 futures traded at 1484.70, at a premium compared with spot closing of 1471.50. Reliance Infrastructure June 2016 futures traded at 545.60, at a premium compared with spot closing of 541. RIL June 2016 futures traded at 979.90, at a premium compared with spot closing of 973.
The June 2016 F&O contracts are set to expire on 30 June 2016. The July 2016 F&O contracts are set to expire on 28 July 2016.
