Journalists on the beat know all too well that Finance Minister P Chidambaram cannot be made to comment on an issue that is either not listed on the agenda of a particular meeting or something he does not want to discuss. At a recent press conferences a TV reporter smartly tried to extract more information from the finance minister in the guise of seeking his opinion on an issue. But Chidambaram was not to be caught out. “After 7 p m there are enough platforms to reflect opinion. I’m here to make announcements,” he jibed.
