Whatever happens, Mr Chidambaram will first have to endure, among other things, the ongoing case against his election from Sivaganga in 2009 filed by his rival from the AIADMK (All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam), Raja Kannapan, whom Mr Chidambaram beat by 3,300 votes in a dramatic last-minute reversal. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa loses no opportunity to bring up counting methods that she claims were open to manipulation. But Mr Chidambaram’s son, Karti Chidambaram, clearly disagrees. During the US election count, he tweeted: “Each state in the US has its own peculiar voting n counting rules. Our uniform EC [Election Commission] rules definitely much more clearer n robust [sic].”
