The target is 7 LT more than that of the last kharif season, Food and Consumer Protection Minister Shyam Rajak told reporters here.

State Food Corporation has been asked to procure 8 LT paddy, while the remaining target will be met by the Primary Agriculture Credit Societies, he said.

In order to root out middlemen from paddy procurement, the farmers will be given payment only through account payee cheques so that they could reap maximum benefit of their produce, Rajak said.

The state government had procured 23 LT paddy and 7 LT wheat last year.
