Election Commission of India (ECI) today told the Delhi High Court that it has adopted special mechanism to ensure that bogus voters are kept away from voting in the upcoming assembly polls here.
Justice Vibhu Bakhru was informed by the counsel for the poll panel that no one will be allowed to vote twice in any of the assembly constituencies as it has taken every measure for conduct of fair assembly election on February 7.
Advocate P R Chopra, appearing for the commission, submitted during hearing of the plea by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Devindra Sehrawat, who alleged the presence of large number of bogus voters in his 36-Bijwasan Delhi Assembly constituency.
The court disposed of the plea taking note of the poll panel submissions.
"In view of the assurance extended to the court by ECI and Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), there is no need for further order," the court said.
Sehrawat, in his plea, sought the rectification of the electoral roll before the election.
The petitioner said there were over 3,500 of bogus voters present in the revised electoral list.
He sought that an enquiry be conducted into the registration of such bogus voters and action be taken against the officials responsible for such mistakes.
