Cop, criminal killed in shootout at police outpost

The criminal, Sumit Tanda, wanted in several cases of extortion, last night opened fire and injured constable Umesh Kumar when he was stopped at Sankatadevi police outpost.

The 30-year-old constable who was seriously injured in the incident was rushed to hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

Following the attack, a police team chased Tanda and shot him dead near the city railway crossing.

Tanda on October 27 had attacked a city nursing home to extort money and had shot at an attendant.
