Man attempts suicide

allegedly attempted suicide by cutting his throat with a blade during questioning by the police at his house at Bhitartamania village in Jajpur district today.

The man was rushed to government hospital at Danagadi. The man identified as Badal Hembrum was an accused in a theft case and he was arrested by the Kalinga Nagar police last night.

According to police, Badal was arrested in connection with a theft case and was taken to his house by the police this morning in order to recover the stolen items from there.

The accused entered into his house on pretext of bringing stolen items and allegedly cut his throat with a blade in a bid to commit suicide, police said.

When he did not come out of his house for a long time, police went inside and found laying him in a pool of blood. Then they rushed him to the local hospital and he survived. Police have been deployed in the hospital to guard the injured accused.

"Badal is undergoing treatment at the hospital and out of danger. A section of police force has been deployed at the hospital to maintain a strict vigil on the accused and a case has been registered," said Deepak Kumar, Jajpur superintendent of Police.
