25-year old Kabathulai died at the government hospital here today where he was admitted after he fell down from the tower of the Sri Sivakami Amman temple at Chinnamanur on June 2.
After being spotted inside the temple by an ex-servicemen, the man had climbed the tower to escape and started pelting stones at police, who rushed there on being alerted. He had lost balance and fell down.
Police suspect Kabathulai was part of a big gang who had come with the intention to rob the temples in the mofussil areas and had made a detailed survey of the temple earlier.
Police have seized his mobilephone. "Our initial investigation revealed that his intention is to loot the temple--of the idols or jewels," police said.
A special team has rushed to Bihar for further investigation into his background.
