Police have taken into custody the accused, identified as Bhimanna, and his associate Ramalingam for allegedly poisoning Chinna Hanumanthu, which resulted into his death in Siraladoddi village of the district last night.
"Accused Bhimanna and deceased Hanumanthu were close friends. Bhimanna allegedly hatched a plan to eliminate Hanumanthu as he suspected that his friend had illegal intimacy with his wife," Yemmiganur police station Circle Inspector Srinivas Murthy said.
Police suspect that Hanumanthu was offered food mixed with some poisonous substance last night resulting in his death, the officer said.
