Milkha Singh to flag off mini marathon ahead of Yoga Day

Flying Sikh Milkha Singh will flag off a mini marathon or 'yoga run' in the national capital on June 18 being organised in the run-up to the International Day of Yoga.
The six-kilometre mini-marathon for youths titled 'Yoga Run for Peace and Unity' will start from India Gate.
"About 6,000 participants from various organisations will take part in this yoga run which will be flagged off by the iconic runner Padma Shri Milkha Singh," an official statement said.
The mini-marathon will pass through Mansingh Road Crossing via Rajpath-Rafi Marg, Dr Rajendra Prasad Road, Janpath, Rajpath before finishing at India Gate, also the starting point.
It is being supported by the Sports and Youth Affairs ministry and United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in India.
Organisations which will take part in the marathon include Nehru Yuva Kendra(NYK), National Service Scheme(NSS), Bharat Scouts and Guides, Patanjali Yoga Peeth, Youth Wings of Lions Club, Rajyoga Education and Research Foundation (RERF) and the Brahma Kumaris.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend in the main International Day of Yoga event on June 21 which is being held at Capitol Complex in Chandigarh and is expected to be attended by around 30,000 people out of the total 1,20,000 who have registered themselves.
Among the participants will also be 200 'divyangs', the new nomenclature for differently-abled people.
In the national capital, a mass demonstration has been planned at Connaught Place, which could see 10,000 people participating, while diplomats and bureaucrats will take part in events at Nehru Park and Lodhi Garden.
The ministry will also organise a two-day international conference on "Yoga for Body and Beyond" at Vigyan Bhawan on June 22 and 23 in which eminent experts from across the globe will participate.
