The 43-year-old actor, who is considered one of the most talented and versatile performers in Bollywood, did not name anyone in his post but it seemed to be aimed at someone.
"Thank you for making me realise that I cannot be paired along with the fair and handsome because I'm dark and not good looking, but I never focus on that," Nawaz tweeted.
The tweet appeared to be a response to "Babumoshai Bandookbaaz" casting director Sanjay Chouhan's recent comments.
Chouhan, in an interview to a daily, had apparently said that after Chitrangada Singh walked out of the film, they searched for a new female lead who would suit Nawazuddin's look and personality.
Only last year, Nawazuddin had praised the film industry for giving priority to talent over good looks.
