With a Nepal Army team recently returning after serving in the UN Mission for Stabilisation of Congo (MONUSCO), the number of Nepalese soldiers who have served in peacekeeping assignments has reached one lakh, the army headquarters said in a statement.
A special function was organised at army headquarters to mark one lakh personnel serving in peacekeeping missions in 12 countries since 1958.
Nepalese soldiers first served with the UN Observer Group in Lebanon (UNOGIL) in 1958. Over the past 55 years, they have served in 40 UN missions.
Nepal is in the seventh position among countries contributing troops for UN missions.
