Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has objected to an advertisement by a telecom company which shows a person trying to sell a fake version of the Pashmina shawls, a major handicraft product from the Valley.
Omar said the advertisement was an insult to the honest Kashmiri handicraft salesman.
"It's also insulting to the hundreds of honest Kashmiri handicraft salesmen when the image projected is that of crooks," he wrote on micro-blogging site twitter.
Omar said the advertisement was wrong and totally misleading.
The telecom company has come out with a series of advertisements promoting use of internet on mobile phone. One such advertisement shows a woman asking the salesperson whether the Pashmina shawl he was selling can pass through a ring test.
Omar said the ring test is done for Shahtoosh shawl to check genuineness.
Selling or buying of Shahtoosh has been made illegal in all countries that signed the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species. Many countries including India are cracking down on those involved in the Shahtoosh trade.
