Official papers recording the purchase of Buckingham Palace for 28,000 pounds is going on display for the first time as part of an exhibition at Windsor Castle.
The title deed, dated April 20, 1763, outlined how King George III bought the palace, then known as Buckingham House, from nobleman Charles Sheffield.
The property was bought by the monarch for his wife, Queen Charlotte, to accommodate the pair's growing family. The organisers of the exhibition say the price paid is roughly 2 million pounds in today's money.
The exhibition begins in Windsor tomorrow. It is accompanied by a book containing dozens more papers from the Royal Archives, including George III's personal reflections on the loss of the American colonies following the War of Independence in 1783.
