The National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC) would make recommendations for the upliftment of people who are lagging in social and educational spheres, its Chairman said today and sought powers for the panel to ensure proper implementation of reservation for OBCs.
The Commission would make its recommendations to the Centre for additions or removal of certain communities (from backward classes), a Telangana Government release here quoted NCBC Chairman Justice V Eswaraiah as saying during a three-day public hearing held by the panel in the state.
He felt that the Commission should be given powers for verifying whether the 27 per cent reservation for backward classes is being implemented properly or not.
The panel has recommended increasing the annual income limit for creamy-layer (who are not entitled for quota benefits) from the present Rs 6 lakh to Rs 10.5 lakh, Eswaraiah said.
The Commission favoured providing better facilities for the welfare of people of nomadic communities, he said, adding caste discrimination has come down in society to a great extent.
The NCBC would submit a report to the Centre on its hearing in Telangana, Eswaraiah added.
