Tata Power, country's largest private power producer, today said its overall generation capacity in the June quarter this fiscal rose by nearly 9 per cent, driven by enhanced focus on renewable energy space.
The company in a BSE filing said that its "generation capacity increased by close to 9 per cent in Q1 FY2016-17 as compared to Q1 FY2015-16. The company, together with all its subsidiaries and jointly controlled entities, has an installed generation capacity of 9,432 MW (as of August 2016) as compared to 8,669 MW in FY2015-16".
The rise in overall generation capacity was "mainly due to commissioning of 44 MW Lahori wind farm project in Madhya Pradesh and Cennergi (Pty) achieving commercial operations of both its 134 MW Amakhala Emoyeni and 95 MW Tsitsikamma Wind Farms", the company said in a statement.
The company generates power from various fuel sources such as thermal (coal, gas and oil), hydroelectric power, renewable energy (wind and solar) and waste heat recovery, thereby, reinforcing its position as the largest integrated power company in India.
The company has a significant presence in the clean energy space with a gross installed capacity of 1,996 MW.
Overall in Q1 FY2016-17, the company continued its robust operations with Maithon Power station generating 1,845 million units (MUs). Standalone generation for the quarter stood at 3,163 MUs.
Trombay Thermal Power generated 1,789 MUs. Jojobera thermal power station generated 698 MUs and Haldia reported generation of 184 MUs.
Industrial Energy Limited reported generation of 546 MUs and Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL), the renewable energy arm of Tata Power, generated 144 MUs in first quarter that includes clean and green energy sources (wind & solar).
Total consolidated generation stood at 11,122 MUs.
Tata Power CEO and Managing Director Anil Sardana said, "Tata Power has and will continue to be a part of India's growth story. We have, in this quarter, spread our footprint across the country, also commissioned plants in international geographies with a special focus on the renewables."
"We are confident that in the next few years we will have greater contribution towards the government and consumers' vision of 'Power for All'," Sardana added.
