The Chief Minister dedicated a 27 km stretch of the outer ring road connecting Mannivakkam and Nemilichery, laid at a cost of Rs 1081.40 crore.
Dedicating the initiative through video conferencing from the state secretariat, she also laid the foundation stone for the second phase of the road, estimated at Rs 1075 crore for 30.50 km. The second phase will connect Nemlichiery to Minjur, an official release said.
The outer ring road was proposed as a decongestion measure, to enable Chennai-bound heavy vehicles, especially container lorries, coming from the southern and western parts of the state, enter the city, thus avoiding suburban routes.
She also inaugurated school buildings in different parts of the state constructed at a cost of Rs 103 crore.
