A woman has filed a complaint accusing her daughter-in-law of allegedly thrashing her one year old grandson in east Delhi's Geeta Colony area.
On December 18, the women's panel had received a complaint from a woman who alleged that her daughter-in-law "regularly beats her family".
"The Commission took immediate cognizance of the complaint and directed Mobile Helpline Team of the Commission to visit the home. The counsellor of the Commission met the sister-in-law of the woman who handed over the CCTV footage where the woman can be seen beating the child," said a DCW spokesperson.
In the video, the mother of the child can be seen kicking him and pushing him to the floor till a relative comes to the rescue of the child.
The women's panel received a complaint on December 18, following which DCW chief Swati Maliwal wrote a letter to SHO, Geetaq Colony informing about the incident.
An FIR under 75 JJ Act was lodged today against the child's mother, said a senior police officer.
The child was medically examined. No arrest has been made in the case so far, police said.
Maliwal expressed anger at the incident and said that the mental condition of the mother needs to be investigated.
"Shocked at brutality of mother. Can't beat animal in manner she beat her own 1.5 year son. Her mental condition needs to be investigated," she tweeted.
The child was produced before the Child Welfare Committee and his custody was handed over to his aunt and grandmother. The Committee directed them to appear before it on January 6, 2017.
