Speaking at a special session on environmental technologies at Destination India, Nishad said a sizeable portion of the environmental spending went to pollution control equipment.

Nishad said the present trend of stepped-up enforcement activity will give a further fillip to the demand. The minister pointed out that although small-scale industries had not yet been subjected to rigorous pollution control, the authorities were encouraging them to cluster together to instal and operate common effluent-treatment plants.

Nishad said the judicial pronouncements on environmental security reflected a very serious concern for public health, disasters and all other consequences of environmental neglect.
