Maruti Udyog Ltd (MUL) has recorded the third launch of an upgraded model in the last five months, with the unveiling of the new Omni on Tuesday. The company had earlier launched upgraded versions of the 800 cc model and the Esteem.

With the upgradation, the ex-showroom price of the Omni's five-seater version has gone up to Rs 2,04,716 in Delhi (an escalation of Rs 6,242), Rs 2,23,580 in Mumbai (Rs 6,630), Rs 2,22,562 in Chennai (Rs 6,072) and Rs 2,04,540 in Calcutta (Rs 6,039). For the other model, the eight-seater Omni E, the ex-showroom price goes up to Rs 1,89,397 in Delhi (an escalation of Rs 6,966), Rs 2,07,291 in Mumbai (Rs 7,400), Rs 2,06,534 in Chennai (Rs 6,830) and Rs 1,89,703 in Calcutta (Rs 6,740).

MUL managing director R S S L N Bhaskarudu said at the launch of the new Omni in New Delhi that the company had not passed on the entire cost of upgradation to the buyer and absorbed a sizeable part of it. The company has already phased out the production of the old models. Only the new models are available in the market from now onwards.

The new Omni models sport a new rounded nose front panel, rectangular headlamps, besides new grill and bumpers. To enhance the safety of the vehicle, the company has added side mouldings and introduced dual reversing lamps for greater visibility.

The other changes are: larger rear view mirrors, protective reinforced bar, front bucket seats, larger ventilators, improved door trims and fittings, larger-grip steering wheel and back-lit instrument cluster.

However, there has been no change in the 796 cc engine of the vehicle.
