The improved sentiment of last Friday persisted yesterday on the Calcutta Stock Exchange (CSE), with share prices gaining on fresh support. Brokers said, higher advices from Mumbai also aided the uptrend, effectively supported by extended bear covering in all major bourses.

The turnover was fair and undertone steady. The rise in prices pushed up the 50-share CSE index to 96.11 points, gaining 1.05 points. In the specified list ACC closed at Rs 1,312, Tisco at Rs 126.70 and ITC at Rs 575.60 while SBI finished at Rs 246.90, RIL at Rs 156.40, Tata Tea at Rs 410.40, HLL at Rs 1,360, and Bata at Rs 151.

Balrampur Chini settled at Rs 96, L&T at Rs 190.70, CESC at Rs 29, BSES at Rs 166.90, Hindalco at Rs 597.20, Hind Motor at Rs 11.60, Indo Gulf at Rs 33.90, ICI at Rs 148, LML at Rs 99.70 and ITC Bhad at Rs 27.30. In the non-specified list also there were gainers reflecting new enquiry, Goodrick group was traded at Rs 96, Rolta at Rs 16.60, Bank of Rajasthan at Rs 53, HDFC Bank at Rs 72.30, Mastergain at Rs 10.40, Woolworth at Rs 10.40.
