India adds 5.7 million active mobile users in October as Jio leads growth

India's active subscriber base rose sharply by 5.7 million in October, strongest show in five months, with Jio leading the pack with gains at 3.9 million, according to various analyst reports that crunched TRAI recent data. In its report, Jefferies said strong subscriber momentum for calender 2025 (year till date) and rising data penetration bode well for average revenue per user or ARPUs. "During October, sector's active subscriber base rose by 5.7 million to 1,094 million - highest monthly addition in last 5 months. Active subscriber base grew by about 34 million during CYTD'25 - the highest in eight years," it said. Jio's active subscriber gains were at 3.9 million (to 476 million) in October, with Bharti Airtel at nearly 2.8 million (the nine-month high pushing the count to 392 million), while Vodafone Idea lost 0.4 million. BSNL, Numaligarh sign pact for 5G private network in refinery sector

State-run telecom firm BSNL has signed a pact with public sector firm Numaligarh Refinery Limited for the deployment of the 5G private network in the refinery sector, an official statement said on Sunday. The memorandum of understanding between the companies was signed during the "Industry 4.0 Workshop for CPSEs" organised under the aegis of the Ministry of Finance in Guwahati. "Under this MoU, BSNL and NRL will collaborate to deploy India's first 5G CNPN (Captive Non-Public Network) within the refinery sector, ushering in a new era of secure, ultra-reliable, and real-time industrial connectivity. This initiative is a pioneering step in leveraging indigenous 5G infrastructure for mission-critical operations," the statement said. Private telcos publish 5G, 4G, 2G network coverage maps as per Trai order

Private telecom operators Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea have published 5G, 4G and 2G network coverage maps in compliance with sector regulator Trai order, while public sector firms BSNL and MTNL are yet to publish it. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) in a revised regulation on service quality norms for landline, mobile and broadband in August 2024, had mandated telecom operators to publish service-wise geospatial coverage maps on their websites on where wireless voice or wireless broadband service is available for subscription by consumers. "In a significant move to enhance transparency and empower mobile subscribers, Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) have published mobile network coverage maps on their websites, as per the mandate given by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI)," the regulator said in a statement.
