Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday said that three metro stations in Pitampura will be renamed for the sake of local identity. She made the announcement while attending the Shresth Bharat Sampark Yatra in Haiderpur village here. The yatra was taken out in honour of the martyrs of the Rezang La battle, fought by the Indian Army against the invading Chinese forces in the winter of 1962 at over 16,000 ft above mean sea level. In all, 114 army men of the 13 Kumaon Regiment died in that battle. Later, in a post on X, the chief minister said Haiderpur village is emerging as a symbol of a developing Delhi, where tradition is honoured, and modern amenities are accorded the highest priority. "For the convenience of travellers and to clearly reflect the local identity, the proposed Uttari Pitampura Station in the QU Block will now be named Uttari Pitampura-Prashant Vihar Metro Station," Gupta said. The proposed Pitampura North Metro Station will be named Haiderpur Village Metro ...
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation on Saturday reopened two entry gates at Lal Quila Metro station, nearly four days after the facility was shut in the aftermath of the powerful blast near the Red Fort. In a post on X, the DMRC said, "The Red Fort metro station's gate numbers 2 and 3 are now open for commuters, restoring partial access that had been suspended as part of security measures following the incident." The explosion on Monday evening near the Red Fort had prompted an immediate lockdown of the surrounding area, with enhanced checks and movement restrictions in force for several days as security agencies carried out investigations. The reopening of the two gates is expected to ease pedestrian movement around the busy heritage zone, particularly for tourists and traders operating in the adjoining markets.
The Lal Quila Metro Station will remain closed on Wednesday as a precautionary measure following the high-intensity blast near the Red Fort on Monday. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), in a post on X, said, "Due to security reasons, the Lal Quila Metro Station shall continue to remain closed on November 12. All other stations are functional as normal." The metro station remained shut for commuters on Tuesday as well, following Monday evening's explosion near the Red Fort that killed at least 12 people and left 20 others injured. Bearing the effect of the tragic incident and traffic restrictions in the vicinity, the nearby markets wore a deserted look with shopkeepers expressing concern over the loss of business. Bachoo Choudhury, a shopkeeper in Lajpat Rai Market, said, "We work for two months--one day of work is equal to one month's worth." "We have enough stock to last two months. The rest of the year, we sit idle as there isn't much work. How will tourists come now? Our

A new metro station will be part of the upcoming Golden Line to provide connectivity between Delhi airport's Terminal 1 and Terminal 3, a senior official said. Of the three terminals at Delhi airport, which is also the country's busiest, Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 are close by, while Terminal 1 is a few kilometres away. In an interview with PTI, DIAL CEO Videh Kumar Jaipuriar said the new integrated station is being planned to provide connectivity between Aerocity and T1. "The Golden Line was earlier supposed to come up to the Aerocity. We have convinced the DMRC (Delhi Metro Rail Corporation) to extend it up to T1. "So, that will actually act as one of the metro lines which will connect from T1 to Aerocity and from Aerocity, we have got the airport line," he said. Currently, the Airport Metro Express Line or the Orange Line, connects to T3, while the Magenta Line links T1, but there is no direct connectivity between T1 and T3. According to Jaipuriar, efforts are underway to have
In a move aimed at increasing its reliance on clean energy, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has invited bids for the supply of 500 million units of renewable energy annually to power its operations, officials said on Sunday. According to a statement, the DMRC is seeking to select a 'solar power developer' to set up a grid-connected captive generating plant along with a battery energy storage system (BESS) anywhere in India. The energy produced will be supplied to the DMRC under a 25-year power purchase agreement, with the project expected to be completed within 15 months of award, it said. At present, Delhi Metro meets about 33 per cent of its power demand from renewable sources. It procures around 350 MU annually from the Rewa Solar Park in Madhya Pradesh and generates 40 MU from rooftop solar installations across its stations, depots, and residential complexes, the statement said. During daytime operations, the share of renewable energy reaches nearly 65 per cent, it ...

Days after the Delhi Metro faced a series of technical snags that disrupted services and caused overcrowding on several routes, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will start ultrasonic testing of rail welds to strengthen safety checks across its network. A tender was issued on October 7, seeking agencies for "Ultrasonic Flaw Detection (USFD) testing of Alumino-Thermic (AT) welds and rails (using B-scan machines for rail testing)" on six lines, including the Airport Express Line. The contract, valued at around Rs 1.89 crore, will be executed over a period of three years. As per the tender, the project aims to detect hidden defects in rails and welds that could otherwise lead to operational issues or safety risks. "Ultrasonic flaw detection will be utilised in metro systems for rapid, non-destructive testing (NDT) of rail tracks to identify internal issues such as cracks and corrosion," the tender read. Testing will be carried out on Lines 3 and 4, which are the oldest Blue Line
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has signed a contract with Alstom Transport India Limited to enhance the reliability and performance of its oldest and busiest corridors, the Red Line and Yellow Line. The agreement was signed by DMRC's Director Infrastructure Manuj Singhal and Alstom Transport India Limited's Director Commercial Sachin Deora at Metro Bhawan. DMRC Managing Director Vikas Kumar and senior officials from both organisations were also present at yhe event, an official statement said. The move reflects DMRC's ongoing efforts to ensure high service standards and operational efficiency on its key metro lines -- the Red Line (Line-1) and Yellow Line (Line-2) --, the statement said. The contract, valid for six years with an option to extend it by an additional two years, aims to ensure the availability of onboard spares for the signalling systems and upgrade the existing data logging facilities to better analyse faults, it added. The Red Line which has been operational s
The Delhi Metro witnessed its third technical snag within a week on Monday, causing delays on the Yellow and Blue lines and leading to overcrowding at several stations. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said the delays were also reported between Barakhamba and Indraprastha stations on the Blue Line due to a signalling issue. The signalling issue in the metro system was a technical failure in the automated safety mechanism that regulates train movement, forcing trains to slow down and operate in manual mode. Earlier in the day, train services on the Yellow Line were also affected in the afternoon due to a signalling issue at Millennium City Centre, Gurugram. "Due to a signalling issue at the terminal station Millennium City Centre Gurugram, the reversal of trains for onward service towards Samaypur Badli is taking a little extra time," the DMRC said in a post on X. Train movement was disrupted between Sultanpur and Millennium City Centre, leading to long waiting times for ...
Metro services on a stretch of the Yellow Line from Vishwavidyalya to Central Secretariat were disrupted on Friday morning during peak office and school hours, causing inconvenience to thousands of commuters. According to officials, trains were running with delays between Vishwavidyalaya and Central Secretariat stations, while normal services were maintained across all other corridors of the network. Several passengers complained that the travel time from Vishwavidyalaya to GTB Nagar, which usually takes only a few minutes, stretched to nearly 50 minutes because of the disruption. Many said the delays left them struggling to reach offices and schools on time. DMRC said services were being gradually normalised and efforts were underway to restore smooth operations on the affected section.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has reported a sharp decline in incidents of kite strings causing malfunction on its network on Independence Day and Janmashtami this year. The transporter attributed the decline to preventive measures and public cooperation. "Incidents of service disruptions caused by kite flying during August have reduced significantly over the years, particularly around Independence Day," it said in a statement. Kite flying during these festivals, especially when done with metal-coated thread, often leads to tripping of overhead wires and delays in train services. According to DMRC, the number of such incidents has steadily reduced over the past few years from 102 in 2021 to 90 in 2022, 33 in 2023, 23 in 2024 and 11 so far this year. To tackle the problem, DMRC said it put in place maintenance teams of five to seven members across all lines. These teams watch out for entangled kite strings, it said. In addition, insulation sleeves on catenary wires at
