Delhi Metro runs first-ever train as special service on 23rd anniversary

The Delhi Metro on Thursday operated its first-ever train, TS#01, as a special service to mark the anniversary of the commencement of passenger services on the network in 2002. The train was run on the 8.3-km Shahdara-Tis Hazari section, where Delhi Metro services were inaugurated more than two decades ago, enabling passengers to relive the experience of the historic inaugural run, according to a statement. TS#01 was decorated with flowers and a commemorative banner on the occasion, while passengers travelling on the special service were greeted with flowers, it said. The Delhi Metro began operations in 2002, starting a journey that has since grown into one of India's largest and most successful urban mass transit systems. December 24 marks the completion of 23 years of its operations. TS#01 continues to remain in active service. Three Pitampura metro stations in Delhi to get new names for local identity

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday said that three metro stations in Pitampura will be renamed for the sake of local identity. She made the announcement while attending the Shresth Bharat Sampark Yatra in Haiderpur village here. The yatra was taken out in honour of the martyrs of the Rezang La battle, fought by the Indian Army against the invading Chinese forces in the winter of 1962 at over 16,000 ft above mean sea level. In all, 114 army men of the 13 Kumaon Regiment died in that battle. New Golden Line metro station to link Delhi airport terminals T1-T3

A new metro station will be part of the upcoming Golden Line to provide connectivity between Delhi airport's Terminal 1 and Terminal 3, a senior official said. DMRC invites bids to procure 500 MU renewable energy for low-carbon ops

In a move aimed at increasing its reliance on clean energy, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has invited bids for the supply of 500 million units of renewable energy annually to power its operations, officials said on Sunday. According to a statement, the DMRC is seeking to select a 'solar power developer' to set up a grid-connected captive generating plant along with a battery energy storage system (BESS) anywhere in India. The energy produced will be supplied to the DMRC under a 25-year power purchase agreement, with the project expected to be completed within 15 months of award, it said. At present, Delhi Metro meets about 33 per cent of its power demand from renewable sources. Delhi Metro to begin early operations on Oct 12 for Vedanta half-marathon

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will start its train services early on four lines to facilitate participants of the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon scheduled at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on October 12. According to a statement by the DMRC, metro services will begin at 3:15 am from terminal stations on the Red, Yellow, Blue, and Violet Lines. Delhi Metro to begin ultrasonic testing of rails, welds to boost safety

Days after the Delhi Metro faced a series of technical snags that disrupted services and caused overcrowding on several routes, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will start ultrasonic testing of rail welds to strengthen safety checks across its network. A tender was issued on October 7, seeking agencies for "Ultrasonic Flaw Detection (USFD) testing of Alumino-Thermic (AT) welds and rails (using B-scan machines for rail testing)" on six lines, including the Airport Express Line. The contract, valued at around Rs 1.89 crore, will be executed over a period of three years.
