Sharing the story of Florence Shoe Company founder Aqeel Ahmed Panaruna during a business plenary session in London on June 27, Goyal said an international customer spotted a luxury Hugo Boss shoe at Cairo Airport, checked its label and found it carried the words "Made in India". The first made-in-India C-295 military transport aircraft successfully completed its maiden flight, the Indian Air Force (IAF) said on Wednesday. The IAF is procuring 56 C-295 transport aircraft at a cost of around Rs 21,935 crore. Forty of these aircraft will be assembled by Tata Advanced Systems Limited in cooperation with Airbus at a production facility in Vadodara. The IAF congratulated the entire team behind the successful maiden flight of the first India-made C-295. "The achievement reinforces India's growing aerospace capabilities and underscores the Indian Air Force's commitment to fostering indigenous defence capability under the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat," it said.
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Monday asked the industry to identify goods that can be manufactured in India to help reduce import dependence of those products. He also suggested increasing exports and buy goods manufactured in India, rather than importing them. Addressing domestic traders, he said, "You should keep an eye on what goods are being imported, you will see opportunities in that too, what things can be manufactured in India." Goyal urged stakeholders to study import trends through the commerce ministry's trade portal and identify opportunities for domestic manufacturing and import substitution. The minister said despite global economic uncertainties, triggered by Russia-Ukraine and West Asia crisis, India's exports rose about 5 per cent to USD 863.11 billion in 2025-26. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday called upon people to take pride in "swadeshi" (made in India) products as the festival season peaks in the coming weeks, stressing the mantra of "vocal for local" and the path of "aatmanirbhar Bharat" will lead to a developed India. Everything that is needed in life should be "swadeshi", he said in the 'Mann ki Baat' programme, repeatedly emphasising his point at a time when he has doubled down on the need for the country to become self-reliant amid a dip in the ties with the US after President Donald Trump imposed a 50 per cent tariff on Indian goods. As different parts of the country celebrate Ganesh festival, and Durga Puja and Diwali approach, he said people should never forget about "swadeshi" products during the festivals, be it in purchasing gifts, clothes, decor items or anything else.
