Press Sewa portal to simplify publisher registration: PRGI Yogesh Baweja

Press Registrar General of India (PRGI) Yogesh Baweja on Monday said the Press Sewa portal has been introduced as a single-window solution to simplify the registration process. This initiative aims to enhance transparency, accelerate approvals, and improve the ease of doing business for publishers, he said at a workshop titled Vartalap' addressing the issues faced by publishers, organised by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), Hyderabad, under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, an official release said. PIB Hyderabad Additional Director General Shruti Patil highlighted that this was the first interactive session of its kind in Telangana, designed to clarify publishers' queries and provide guidance on the new Press and Registration of Periodicals Act (PRP Act). She also announced that PIB Hyderabad, with the support of PRGI, would soon establish a dedicated helpline for publishers. 578 cultural artefacts returned from US to India since 2016: Govt

The total number of cultural artefacts returned from the US to India since 2016 stands at 578, the maximum number of such antiquities returned by any country to India, the government said on Monday. The Press Information Bureau (PIB) of the government in a statement outlined some of the key projects and milestones in the country's culture and tourism sectors. "Bringing back the nation's lost heritage has been a priority for the government. Before 2013, only 13 stolen antiquities had been returned to India from abroad. However, since 2014, 642 stolen antiquities have been traced and are at various stages of being brought back to the country," it said. Editors Guild welcomes Supreme Court stay on PIB's fact-checking unit

Editors Guild of India on Thursday welcomed the Supreme Court's order staying the Centre's notification setting up a fact-checking unit under the Press Information Bureau (PIB) to identify fake news about the Central government. The fact check unit was notified on March 20 under Information Technology Rules, 2021, by the Ministry of Electronics and IT, amid concerns voiced by civil society groups and media outlets about the possibility of its misuse for potential censorship. The Press Information Bureau's fact check unit has busted nine YouTube channels allegedly spreading fake news and misinformation in India, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said on Friday.
