Cinema exhibitor PVR INOX on Wednesday said its consolidated net profit jumped over two-fold year-on-year to Rs 95.4 crore in the December quarter of FY25. The company reported a net profit of Rs 35.5 crore in the October-December quarter of the previous fiscal year, according to a regulatory filing. PVR INOX revenue from operations was up 9.46 per cent to Rs 1,879.8 crore in the December quarter. It was at Rs 1,717.3 crore in the corresponding period. Total expenses were at Rs 1,755.6 crore in the December quarter, up 2.5 per cent year-on-year. During the reporting quarter, PVR INOX revenue from its movie exhibition segment was up 10.8 per cent to Rs 1,815.3 crore. Revenue from 'movie production and distribution' stood at Rs 117.8 crore, down 19.53 per cent annually. Total income, which includes other income, was at Rs 1,919.6 crore, up 9.12 per cent. Leading multiplex operator PVR INOX on Monday said it has sold its premium snacking business operating under the 4700BC brand to home-grown FMCG major Marico in an all-cash deal, having a total consideration of Rs 226.8 crore. The board of PVR INOX, in a meeting on Monday, approved divesting its 93.27 per cent stake in Zea Maize Pvt Ltd (ZMPL), which owns the brand 4700BC, according to a regulatory update from the Bijli family-promoted entity. 4700BC is one of India's leading premium gourmet snacking brands, renowned for its popcorn and range of innovative snack offerings such as popped chips, makhana, crunchy corn, and nachos. Buoyed by a robust Dussehra weekend, cinema exhibitor PVR INOX Ltd is looking forward to a strong festive season, having already crossed 50 per cent occupancy. This Dussehra, which also marked Gandhi Jayanti, has already seen over 8.5 lakh admissions, with occupancy crossing 50 per cent, the company said. Cinema exhibitor PVR INOX is looking to build on the momentum of a strong first quarter, tapping new good movie releases and consumer fatigue with OTT as it seeks to return to profitability, according to its Managing Director Ajay Bijli. Having recorded a 12 per cent year-on-year growth in people visiting the company's cinemas at 3.4 crore in the first quarter of this fiscal, despite a subdued April, the business has bounced back, Bijli told PTI. "We are obviously very happy that business has bounced back. We've always been very confident about the fact that Indian consumers will always consider going out and watching movies on the big screen as the number one form of entertainment," he noted. Cinema exhibitor PVR INOX plans to add around 200 screens in two years at an investment of up to Rs 400 crore, its Executive Director Sanjeev Kumar Bijli said on Wednesday. The company's expansion plans will majorly focus on South India, followed by smaller cities and towns in the next two years, Bijli told PTI in an interview. "This financial year, 2025-26, we have about 100 screen openings planned, and out of which we have opened about 20 already in the first quarter, and we have another 82 to go. So, basically, we are on track to open about 100 screens this year," he said when asked about the company's expansion plans. Out of the 100 screens, 40 screens are in South India, including Hyderabad, Bangalore and Hubli. At the same time, some cinemas will come up in Mumbai, Delhi, and Gurugram, and some smaller towns like Siliguri, Jabalpur, Leh and Gangtok.
