IMD predicts thunderstorm, light rain in Delhi on Sunday; AQI moderate

Thunderstorm with rain is likely in the national capital on Sunday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted. On Saturday, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 34 degrees celsius, 0.7 notches below the season's average. The minimum temperature settled at 24.6 degrees celsius, 2.3 notches above the season's average, the IMD said. The relative humidity was recorded at 64 per cent at 5.30 pm. The maximum temperature on Sunday is expected to be around 35 degrees Celsius, the IMD predicted. Delhi's air quality was recorded in the 'moderate' category at 6 pm, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) reading of 114, showed the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data. According to the CPCB, an AQI between zero and 50 is considered 'good', 51 and 100 'satisfactory', 101 and 200 'moderate', 201 and 300 'poor', 301 and 400 'very poor', and 401 and 500 'severe'.

Delhi records 32.1 deg C as heavy rain, thunderstorms forecast for Monday

The national capital on Sunday recorded a maximum temperature of 32.1 degrees Celsius, one notch below the season's average, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The minimum temperature settled at 24.5 degrees Celsius, two notches below the season's normal, it said. The IMD has forecast generally cloudy sky with heavy rain and thunderstorms for Monday, with the maximum and minimum temperatures expected to settle around 32 degrees Celsius and 25 degrees Celsius, respectively. The relative humidity in the capital was recorded at 74 per cent at 5.30 pm, the IMD said. The air quality was recorded in the 'satisfactory' category at 4 pm on Sunday, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) reading of 79, Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data showed. According to the CPCB, an AQI between zero and 50 is considered 'good', 51 and 100 'satisfactory', 101 and 200 'moderate', 201 and 300 'poor', 301 and 400 'very poor', and 401 and 500 'severe'.

Tourist boat capsizes during thunderstorm in Vietnam; 34 dead; 8 missing

A boat carrying tourists capsized during a sudden thunderstorm in Vietnam on Saturday afternoon during a sightseeing excursion, killing 34 people, state media reported. Eight others remain missing. The Wonder Sea boat was carrying 48 passengers and five crew members all of them Vietnamese during the tour of Ha Long Bay, a popular destination for visitors, according to the reports. Inclement weather conditions impact flight operations at Delhi airport

Flight operations were disrupted at the Delhi airport early Sunday due to heavy rains and winds. The Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in the national capital is the country's largest airport. In a post on X at 3.59 am, IndiGo said adverse weather conditions over Delhi had led to temporary disruptions in flight operations. "While the weather is gradually easing, some airside congestion remains. We assure you that flight movements are steadily resuming as conditions permit," the airline said. In another post at 5.54 am, it said, with clearer skies over Delhi, flight operations are back to normal. According to information available on flight tracking website Flightradar24.com, many flights have been delayed and some cancelled at the airport, and the average delay was over 30 minutes for departures.

2 dead, 11 injured in rain, thunderstorm related accidents across Delhi

A 22-year-old youth and a person with disability died, while at least 11 were injured, in separate rain-related incidents in the national capital Wednesday evening, police said. Around 7.50 pm, a high-beam electricity pole collapsed during a thunderstorm near the Lodhi Road flyover in southeast Delhi, close to the Nizamuddin area. The pole fell in the middle of the road, hitting the disabled man who was passing by on a tricycle. The India Meteorological Department on Wednesday forecast "heavy rainfall" in parts of Andhra Pradesh over three days, from December 18 to 20, due to a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal. IMD predicted "heavy rain" on Wednesday at isolated places in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP), Yanam, South Coastal Andhra Pradesh (SCAP), and Rayalaseema.
