Underlining that global conflicts and uncertainties particularly affect the 'Global South' adversely, President Droupadi Murmu on Monday said India and Angola have extensive opportunities to "deepen economic ties" in sectors like digital technology, defence, agriculture and food processing. Vice President C P Radhakrishnan on Sunday represented India at the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected president of Seychelles, Patrick Herminie. Radhakrishnan is on a two-day visit to Seychelles. The vice president's visit underscores India's deep commitment to further strengthen and expand its partnership with Seychelles, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Friday. Opposition vice-presidential candidate B Sudarshan Reddy on Thursday filed his nomination papers in the presence of top Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. Reddy, a former Supreme Court Judge, submitted four sets of nomination papers before the Rajya Sabha secretary general, who is also the returning officer for the vice-presidential election. NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar, SP leader Ramgopal Yadav, DMK's Tiruchi Siva, TMC's Satabdi Roy, Shiv Sena (UBT)'s Sanjay Raut, CPI(M)'s John Brittas were among the opposition leaders present for the nomination. Newly appointed Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday called on President Droupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan here. The President's Office shared a picture of the meeting in a post on X. "Chief Minister of Delhi, Smt Rekha Gupta called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan," it said in the post. Gupta, who is Delhi's fourth woman chief minister, and her six ministers were sworn in at the Ramlila Ground on Thursday. The 50-year-old chief minister, who took charge of her office at the Delhi Secretariat on Thursday afternoon, is the only woman chief minister in the NDA and the second in the country after TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee in West Bengal. Goa Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai also called on Murmu. The Supreme Court on Monday refused to entertain a plea challenging the Bombay High Court order which had dismissed a petition against Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju over their remarks on the judiciary and the collegium system for appointment of judges. The plea came up for hearing before a bench of Justices S K Kaul and A Amanullah. "What is this? You are for the petitioner? Why have you come here? Just to complete a circle of coming to the higher court?," the bench observed. "We believe that the high court view is correct. If any authority has made an inappropriate statement, the observations that the Supreme Court is broad enough to deal with the same is the correct view," the bench said. Opposition members raised the issue of alleged misuse of central agencies against non-BJP governments and the move to appoint Dhankhar's personal staff on parliamentary committees. Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Thursday visited the Statue of Unity at Kevadia in Gujarat's Narmada district. He also visited Arogya Van at the site of the statue, located around 200km from Ahmedabad, along with Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat. The Statue of Unity is an iconic 182-meter tall tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and it was inaugurated in 2018.
