Bajaj Auto June sales down 14%, plant strike hits production

The strike at the Chakan plant caused a production loss of 20,000 motorcycles for the month

Bajaj Auto today said the total vehicle sales of the company last month stood at 2,95,749 units compared to 3,45,162 units in the same period a year ago, down 14.3%.

The company said a strike at its Chakan plant in Maharashtra had caused a production loss of about 20,000 motorcycles for the month.

It reported 20% decline in its motorcycle sales at 2,54,544 units in June 2013.

The company had sold 3,18,377 units in the corresponding month last year, it said in a statement.

BAL said exports were, however, up by 3.73% during the month at 1,20,399 units compared to 1,16,062 units in June, 2012.

In the commercial vehicles category, the company said its sales stood at 41,205 units as against 26,785 units in the same month last year, a jump of 53.83%.
