Freecharge has introduced a person to person payment tool, which will enable customers to talk to merchants and pay for their purchase.

The app will also include person-to-person social payments, which exist in other apps such as Transerv. After registering on the app, users can discover merchants in their neighbourhood and pay. The time taken to complete the transaction, the company said, is less than five seconds. Merchants will be able to accept payments up to Rs 10,000. The company aims to attach more customers in the unorganized sector, which it hopes will generate traffic on its app.

"Our ambition at Freecharge is to create a Payment OS for India. Payments are often social; they are in fact a very human interaction. Chat N Pay brings this human emotion to payments. We are confident Chat N Pay will accelerate the adoption of digital payments," said Govind Rajan, chief operating officer, FreeCharge.

The chat and pay service is currently only available on Android. The iOS and Windows tool will be released soon, a statement released by the company stated.
