Infrastructure firms continue to suffer from high debt, poor profitability

Profits and debt don't go together

Corporate India’s balance sheet is a study in contrast. Companies and sectors with the highest debt and assets are not necessarily the most profitable, and some of them are also responsible for the financial stress in the system as well as debt repayment woes for lenders. Software exporters and fast moving consumer goods companies are some of the most profitable but remain debt-free. Companies in infrastructure sector continue to suffer from high debt and poor profitability, despite a pick-up in growth in last two years.
