Lectra India will focus on providing computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) services to Indian companies in the fashion and accessories, automotive (seats and interiors), wind energy and furniture markets. India represents a fairly significant opportunity for us as the design space market is underserved by the existing players, Robert Agnes, president, Lectra Asia-Pacific, told reporters here.

Lectra, which has been operating in the country for the last ten years by partnering with Magdum Solutions, enjoys an installed client base of 300 companies here. The global revenue of Lectra was Euro 217 million in 2007 and of this, revenue from India operations was two-three per cent. "We are confident of trebling our business in the next three years. Apart from continuing partnership with Magdum Solutions by adopting a mixed distribution model, we will offer automated cutting solutions and state-of-art software to companies in order to help them optmise prototyping product development and quickly move to pattern design," Agnes said.

Lectra's investment in India will mainly be on its people. "Our present head-count is 20 and will scale it up in the coming months," said L J Prashanth, managing director of Lectra's Indian subsidiary.
