Mumbai has slipped two places in the list of affordable destinations in a global survey conducted by TripAdvisor, a travel planning site. The survey compares cost of an evening out and overnight stay for two people in key tourist cities across the world and includes combined costs for two people for one night in a four-star hotel, cocktails, a two-course dinner with a bottle of wine, and return taxi transportation.
Mumbai fell two places to 16th spot in the list of 20 affordable destinations due to increase in commuting and dining costs. Mumbai is the only Indian city to be ranked in the top twenty list and is number six in list of affordable Asian destinations.
"TripIndex serves as a good indicator for the globe trotting Indian to know where he can get most value for his travel budget. This year's list highlights Asia as the most pocket friendly continent for Indians while Europe is expectedly the most expensive,'' said Nikhil Ganju, country manager, TripAdvisor, India.
Sofia, Bulgaria offers the most affordable destination for Indian travellers with a total cost of Rs 8,561.83, while Hanoi in Vietnam takes second place with Rs 9470.32.
