Electronics and appliances major Samsung is increasing its devices portfolio with the Tizen operating system (OS) with the aim of increasing its share in the sub-Rs 15,000 smartphones category in India.
To beat the increasing competition from Chinese and Indian handset vendors which are flooding the market with Android devices at a cheaper price with superior hardware, Samsung has placed its Tizen-enabled 'Z' series as a user-friendly smartphone for consumers who are willing to upgrade from feature phones.
"As per our understanding, there is a considerable number of people who are willing to shift from feature phones to smartphones but find Android (OS) to be complicated to operate," Asim Warsi, vice-president, mobile & information technology, Samsung India said.

"The success of our first model with Tizen OS-Z1 has encouraged us to evolve and come up with an updated model - Z3," Warsi added. Samsung has sold about one million Z1 phones in India since its launch in January this year.
India is among the first few markets to see the launch of the Z3. It is likely to be taken to Europe after the India launch indicating the importance that Samsung is giving to this device in the Indian market.
