Top IT company Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has partnered with Uttar Pradesh government and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for conducting sensitisation workshop on Employability Skills for ITI Principals in the state.
The two-day workshop started today, wherein 100 principals of ITIs from across UP are participating.
The workshop was inaugurated by state principal secretary vocational education Alok Kumar. He noted the primary objective was to sensitise principals about the importance of effective industry engagement and collaboration beyond technical trade knowledge which are essential to make ITI pass-outs ‘more’ employable.
TCS regional head Jayant Krishna, who is also co-chair, CII Northern Region Task Force on Skills & Education, said the employability of Indian students is rather low which resulted into mass unemployment and deprived the country from leveraging rich demographic dividend.
Meanwhile, Kumar announced retired teachers could now be given contractual jobs to address faculty shortages in the ITIs.
He said with increased budgetary outlay, new ITIs would be opened, service sector courses will be introduced and manufacturing trades would be rationalized.
Kumar further said after recognising focus on skilling Indian youth, UP’s Vocational Education Department would henceforth be called Vocational Education & Skill Development Department.
The training programme is aimed at making ITI pass-outs more employable. The programme covers crucial areas such as Bridging the Campus - Corporate gap, Team Building, Effective Communication Skills, Essentials of Job Readiness, Life Skills, etc.
The sessions would be conducted by industry experts from TCS, Hero Motors, Airtel, Aegis, Maruti Suzuki, Indian Army etc.
