The Raman Singh government will reach to the door of the people in the remote areas of Chhattisgarh from Wednesday as the gram suraj abhiyan (village contact programme) gets off from tomorrow.

Under the programme, the team of government official will visit the village; stay for the night and note down the grievances of the people. The state authorities have made necessary preparation for the success of the campaign that aims to take governance to the person standing in the last row of the society.

The district authorities have constituted gram suraj party that comprises a senior official, junior staff and village-level volunteers. The team will inform the villagers about the different government schemes and the programmes launched for the welfare of the people.

The state government official spokesperson said that all the villages that come to be around 20,000 would be covered during the campaign that would be launched in two phases. The first phase would continue from April 18 to 21 while the second phase would start from April 23 and end on April 27.

Chief Minister Raman Singh would pay a surprise visit to the villages during the campaign. As earlier practice, he would hold “choupal” (meeting of villagers) to get first hand report of government’s performance at the village level. Singh would visit atleast one village in all the 27 districts, the spokesperson said.

The opposition Congress party had decided to run a counter campaign under the banner that government should fulfill the promises made earlier.

“The state government has been giving mere assurances to the villagers during the campaign earlier and we want that it shall be implemented,” senior Congress legislator Mohammed Akbar said.

Though the Congress party had announced that it would not oppose the gram suraj abhiyan, it said the campaign against the government would continue.
